Witchford Village College hosted a creative art’s morning on October 18th for some of the year 6 students from local primary schools, as a taster session for this important stage in their education.
One of the activities was with the schools music teacher, Mr C Berthon. The children used an online software to produce short ringtones. They were very interactive with the teacher and were very interested and engaged in the lesson. They learnt all of the techniques needed to use the software. A student commented that the lesson was, “Brilliant, awesome and exciting!” The year 6’s teacher Mr Forder-Stent stated that it was “Brilliant, very engaging for the kids, this will be their highlight of the day!”

Many year 6’s found their “food technology” class very stimulating, as they have not yet been introduced to this subject. “I enjoyed it because we are not doing normal lessons, but doing things we don’t usually do!” All students were astounded at their muffins, and the whole lesson overall! A student commented: “In cooking we felt like we were on Master Chef!.” They all really enjoyed participating in the lesson as they felt independent because they were left to do the main activity themselves.
Mr McPherson, Head of Art and Design got the year 6 students to draw a plant that was put in the middle of the class room and draw the negative space. A student said that it was really good and could not wait to come up to secondary school. A comment from the year 6 teacher Mrs Stanton was that ‘It has been challenging for the kids as well as the adult’s but a lot of fun! I think the kids are so much more confident second time round visiting, following their visit in September for a science morning. All the staff are really impressed on how welcoming the school is teachers, and students of all years!’ All year 6’s were amazed at what the school had to offer, and made them more eager to move up, as one student added: ”Really amazed, can’t wait to move up!”.
